Apple Launches iPhone Duo: Long Lines at Apple Stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, Scam Prices Plunge Within Half a Day

Apple’s first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, was launched on October 23, starting at RMB 15,999 yuan. On the launch day, Apple Stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen were lined with Apple enthusiasts, though the excitement was lower compared to previous straight-screen models. Scam prices, however, have dropped sharply within half a day from their initial high point.

The crowd in Guangzhou’s TianHE store, for instance, had notably thinned. By the first day of sales, there were significant indications of a cooling market for scalpers.

Scam Prices Drop Sharply

Counterfeiter prices were high at the outset but quickly plunged within half a day to a fraction of their initial levels. In Shenzhen’s Yitian Holiday Plaza, the starlight white 256GB version was the most sought after, with initial prices adding 2,000 yuan in buy-back costs; sellers requested 3,000 yuan more. Conversely, the 2TB version saw limited interest from buyers. By noon at Guangzhou’s TianHE store, the range of additional costs had reduced to 2,000 to 2,500 yuan, spiraling to just 1,000 yuan by 3 PM.
