Following the viral spread of a video showing an 11-year-old girl asking for help on social media, police have arrested a 61-year-old grandmother and a 43-year-old foreign domestic helper for suspected “ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of child or young person,” according to reports.
This case stemmed from a referral by social welfare authorities suspicious of potential child abuse. The girl was hospitalized after investigators found her limbs swollen and bruised.
One video purportedly showed the girl—believed to be inside a room—calling for help and describing her family as going crazy. Loud bangs could also be heard in the background.
The second video showed a man shouting aggressively and swearing at the girl.
