For self-driving Hong Kong drivers exploring Shenzhen, be aware that the city is set to implement highly stringent traffic rules starting November 1, 2026. According to the announcement by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, motor vehicles will be prohibited from honking (beeping) on all city roads around the clock for the next five years. Those who violate the rule will be heavily fined: 300 yuan for each offense, and starting from the third offense in a year, the fine will be 500 yuan each time. The Shenzhen Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau and the Shenzhen Traffic Police Corps have jointly issued a notice to improve urban noise levels. Starting November 1, 2026, for a period of five years until November 1, 2031, honking will be banned on all city roads from 12 midnight to 12 midnight every day. Under the new rule, any violation of the honking ban will result in a fine of 300 yuan according to the 'Provisions on Punishing Road Traffic Safety Offenses in the Special Economic Zone of Shenzhen'. If an individual accumulates three or more violations within a year, starting from the third offense, the penalty will escalate to 500 yuan for each subsequent offense.
