Apple’s first foldable smartphone, iPhone Duo, scheduled for release tomorrow, has been discovered to be unable to align with popular apps like WeChat, which will display large black screens on the sides when launched. Tencent’s customer service is actively working on updates to address this issue.
Following the lifting of iPhone Duo’s testing restrictions, tech bloggers and media in Europe and the US have reported that popular apps such as Google Maps, Gmail, and Uber have yet to complete adaptations for large screens, rendering them display-centered with large black areas at the sides when opened. More problematically, the widely-used WeChat, an essential ‘national app’, fails to fully utilize the expanded screen of iPhone Duo, displaying centered on the screen and leaving large black areas at the sides.
Reports indicate that other Apple devices like the iPad mini already commonly activate tablet mode, but iPhone Duo’s system fails to trigger this mode. As a result, it does not support multi-tasking column displays and has limited user experience. Industry analysis suggests that this is due to Apple’s public release of the iPhone Duo developer kit only at the start of October, giving developers insufficient time to adapt and update the software before the phone’s launch.
