By the fourth quarter of 2026, China's anti-corruption '老虎打擊' campaign continues to intensify. High-ranking officials such as former Chongqing Mayor Huang Qifan have been investigated, indicating a growing strength in anti-corruption efforts.

Increasing Number of Officials Falling

In 2025, a record 65 'central-level officials' were officially investigated. As of now in 2026, 54 have been investigated. If the pace of 5 officials falling per month is maintained, the year-end record could be broken again.

Highest-Ranking Officials Investigated

So far this year, 10 deputy ministers have been officially announced as falling, including Sun Shaoqin, Wang Xiangxi, Yi Lianhong, Hu Henghua, Wang Xiaodong, Xu Liuping, Wei Xiaodong, Cai Fuchao, Ye Jianchun, and Huang Qifan. High-level officials such as Zhang Youxie, former Xinjiang Party Secretary Ma Xingrui, and others have also been investigated, reflecting the anti-corruption campaign targeting top leaders.

While China's inflation rate remains low, the amount of bribes involved in corruption cases by officials continues to rise. This year, former Hubei Party Secretary Jiang Chaoliang involved a bribe amount as high as 7.46 billion yuan, setting a new record.
