Hong Kong’s economy is projected to exceed market forecasts in the third quarter, reportedly extending its upward trend to 15 consecutive quarters, as announced by Financial Secretary Paul Chan. Preliminary data indicate that both increased export growth and steady domestic demand will likely drive year-on-year growth above expectations, marking the strongest first three-quarter growth in five years. The continued robust performance of Hong Kong's economy is bolstered by strong export figures, with merchandise exports in September increasing by a remarkable 64.9 percent year-on-year. This growth has been sustained over 20 consecutive months, with September's monthly increase reaching its highest mark in over 40 years. Additionally, Chan highlighted the ongoing global artificial intelligence investment boom, attributing part of the expansion to the high demand for electronic components and AI-related products. Private investment expenditure has grown by double digits for three consecutive quarters and is carrying this momentum into the third quarter, reflecting corporate optimism. Service exports have also benefited from sustained growth in inbound tourism, buoyed by flourishing cross-boundary transport and an active financial market. Chan remains optimistic about coming retail and catering receipt figures, which are expected to show modest growth. The upcoming Hong Kong Fintech Week and the Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit, set to begin on Monday, are anticipated to attract participants from over 100 economies and top financial institutions, further driving economic growth through high-level collaboration and investment opportunities.
