The 27th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen from November 16 to 20. Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Masahiko is currently coordinating for Prime Minister Kishida Fumio to attend the conference. However, he did not specify whether there would be a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During his participation in a parliamentary committee meeting, Motegi Masahiko mentioned that negotiations are ongoing regarding Kishida's attendance of the APEC meeting, without elaborating on which countries he would meet with. In 2021, Japan-China relations deteriorated rapidly after Kishida remarked that "Taiwan's situation concerns us." Motegi Masahiko emphasized the importance of considering the two countries' four political documents, including their joint statements, as historical references. He stressed that China is a vital neighbor for Japan and stated that Japan intends to build a constructive and stable relationship through communication. His comments come at a time when Japan-China relations remain tense following Kishida's comments about Taiwan in 2021.
