A woman from Zhejiang, who was returning to Hangzhou from a Leslie Cheung concert in Shanghai, decided to hail a ride-back-car. Ten hours into the trip, the driver, pretending to be overly tired, asked her newly recovered aunt to take over the driving. Her aunt, who had just undergone a gastrointestinal endoscopy and was not yet fully recovered, was left with no choice but to drive for an hour and a half after taking over several times.
Forced to Drive an Hour and a Half
At the destination, the driver in the passenger seat pretended to be asleep, while the aunt drove for about two-thirds of the distance. Upon arrival, the driver demanded the full fare, refusing to budge. Ms. Zheng had to negotiate and eventually, the driver himself covered the toll fee of around 50 yuan.
Driver Refuses to Take Responsibility
Ms. Zheng reported the incident to the ride-back-car platform, but the service representative initially only offered 20 yuan in coupon compensation. The incident sparked public outrage, prompting the company's official customer service to respond by expressing that the driver should drive steadily and refusing to take responsibility for delegating driving duties to passengers. The company eventually refunded the entire fare.
