A recent incident at the Kanas scenic area in Xinjiang, where security guards allegedly brutally assaulted a stray dog, has sparked public outrage. Videos showed the guards using a thin rope to choke the dog and drag it roughly. The scenic area later reported that the dog was released back to its original location, and those involved were criticized and educated. The local cultural and tourism administration has initiated an investigation.
Incident and Disposition of Involved Personnel
On October 11, around 4 PM, multiple tourists posted videos online, stating they witnessed a black stray dog being lured to the front by three security guards in uniform at the Wolyongwan Viewpoint of the Kanas scenic area. A security guard then suddenly used a thin rope to choke the dog's neck and forcibly pull it, causing the dog to fall and struggle. Not only did the guard fail to loosen the rope, but he also continued to drag the dog for several dozen meters with kicks, resulting in the small dog almost suffocating and passing out. Two others then grabbed the dog's legs and lifted it to the car.
Official Response
The Kanas scenic area and Aletai governmental hotline confirmed that the involved personnel were security guards of the scenic area and that the dog was chasing tourists, which led to the temporary control measures. The scenic area reported that those involved were criticized and educated for their violent behavior, and the dog was released back to its original location on October 13, with its current condition being good. The Aletai regional cultural and tourism administration stated that it is working with Bulin County and other scenic area departments to follow up with the matter.
