Recent serious unrest in France has prompted the Hong Kong government to issue a yellow travel alert. During Paris Fashion Week, 20 million-follower Chinese influencer Yi Mengling had her luggage stolen at Charles de Gaulle Airport, leading to the loss of cameras and a passport with a U.S. visa, and forcing her to cancel international work engagements.
Yi Mengling recalls that she was already under surveillance when she left her car, and suspects that this incident involved an organized group. The luggage stolen from her contained two Fuji cameras and one Riken camera, while her identity card containing her U.S. visa, and important shooting materials, were in the stolen bag. This loss forced her to cancel her previously arranged trip to Los Angeles to attend Victoria's Secret's show and disrupted many of her subsequent business plans.
The incident highlights how extreme right, extreme left, and opportunistic rioters have been preying on the chaos, resulting in over 1,500 shops being looted throughout the country. Previously, Hong Kong actress Vivian Wu had her car’s windows smashed and her bag stolen by bandits on the highway when her vehicle was stuck in traffic, and actress Wan Qianhu also had her work camera stolen in 30 seconds at the Eiffel Tower, resulting in significant footage loss.
