The Hong Kong Police Force's Kowloon Region conducted the "Youth Alert 'Young Alert' Basketball Training Programme 2026 Final and Carnival" at Hollywood Road Recreation Ground on November 1, 2026, attracting over ten thousand community leaders, school principals, teachers, Youth Alert members, and the public. Deputy Director of Police (National Security) Wayne Cheung addressed the gathering, emphasizing the program's alignment with the national "15th Five-Year Plan." Using basketball as a medium, the program aimed to convey messages of national security, anti-drug use, and crime prevention to young people, showcasing China's soft power. He encouraged young people to remain vigilant and become practitioners and disseminators of national security, integrating the knowledge they gained back into their families and schools. Over 120 schools and 240 teams participated in the basketball competition, with 32 elite teams competing in the final. The final featured four categories for both boys and girls, with awards for champions, runners-up, third place, fourth place, and MVP. Basketball performance matches were also held, featuring friendly games between the Hong Kong basketball team, Hero basketball team, and police basketball team against student teams. Additionally, there were 20 interactive booths on national security, anti-drug, and crime prevention themes, as well as a National Security mobile van, educating visitors through games and interactive exhibits.
The program aimed to foster a sense of national security and anti-drug and crime awareness among young people, using basketball as a key educational tool. After the competitions, workshops and discussions were held to reinforce the lessons learned. The event not only served as a platform for young people to build physical prowess but also offered them valuable insights into their nation's security landscape.
This annual event, now in its ninth year, highlights the Hong Kong Police Force's commitment to fostering national security awareness and crime prevention among the youth. It demonstrates how police forces can collaborate with community organizations and schools to promote public safety and education. As part of broader national security efforts, such programs play a crucial role in shaping young minds and ensuring a secure future for Hong Kong.
