Around 9 AM on November 1, traffic enforcement and control officers in the New Territories North were patrolling in Yuen Long Yuen Long Street when they noticed a private vehicle flouting traffic instructions. They attempted to intercept the vehicle but the driver fled in defiance, prompting officers to pursue. At the juncture of Lang River Road and Da Shu Xia West Road, a male officer caught sight of the vehicle. However, the driver refused to surrender a second time, and in an attempt to intercept the vehicle, the officer was scratched. The police are continuing to track down the fleeing driver, whose case has been categorized as "reckless driving." The case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Team 3, Yuen Long Police District. Thankfully, the injured officer, with minor foot injuries, is conscious and has been taken to Bohai Hospital for treatment.
The incident showcases the challenges faced by law enforcement officials during routine patrols in crowded urban areas. Such cases are not uncommon in densely populated regions where drivers might recklessly escape checks. Local authorities are emphasizing the importance of road safety and cautioning citizens on the potential consequences of unauthorized driving maneuvers. Police are advising the public to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with enforcement officers to prevent similar incidents.
With the number of road accidents on the rise, especially during peak hours, the measures taken by the police have raised concerns among local residents about personal safety. The involved driver, who fled the scene, remains at large, prompting authorities to intensify their search efforts. In light of recent events, there is a noticeable increase in community consultations and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting safe and responsible driving practices.
