Hong Kong's nightlife district Lan Kwai Fong is expecting a significant boost in business for Halloween, predicting a turnover increase of approximately 50 percent. Anthea Cheung, director of the Lan Kwai Fong Association, notes that turnover has already seen a growth of at least 30 to 40 percent over the past two weekends, partly due to the Tourism Board's Hong Kong Halloween Month campaign. Cheung attributes the surge in interest to both local residents and visitors, with arrivals from the Greater Bay Area notably higher as cross-boundary travel has become easier. Bars and restaurants in the area have kept some seats reserved for walk-in customers due to already booked tables. Looking forward, the association aims to attract visitors with more comprehensive hotel, dining, and transport package deals to encourage longer stays and higher expenditures. To manage the anticipated crowds on Halloween weekend, immigration officials have inspected Huanggang Port and Shenzhen Bay Control Point to prepare for a late-night outbound peak on Saturday and Sunday. The Immigration Department advises travelers to avoid peak hours for faster crossings and to coordinate with transport operators to enhance service frequency.
Bars and restaurants in Lan Kwai Fong have prepared thoroughly, ensuring they have sufficient drinks and food to cater to the surge in Halloween revelers. Cheung emphasized that the district is ready to accommodate the influx of visitors, with local residents making up around 70 percent of the crowd, supplemented by overseas and mainland guests. The atmosphere generated by the Halloween Month celebrations has drawn more people, including many dressed up for night out.
As the Halloween festivities approach, the area is bracing for a substantial increase in visitors, with the goal of turning these short stays into longer stays through various promotions. This is part of an overall strategy to tap into the lucrative local tourism market and keep the district vibrant year-round.
