Public toilets can be a fairy tale? Recently, Shenzhen has launched an International Toilet Culture Exhibition in Fu District, transforming the Tienfan Public Toilet into a colorful, cartoon-themed cultural museum. For the grand opening of the 2026 hygiene workers' day theme promotional event and the Fu District International Toilet Culture Exhibition on February 26, the Tienfan Public Toilet was re-designed and transformed into a thematic museum. The exterior of the museum reads, "Paper, you know, hand wiping can be so fancy," and the entrance, dubbed by netizens as "the Golden Gentleman," features the animated cartoon character 'Pupu' of Shenzhen's public toilet IP. Inside, the toilet is designed in a fairy tale style with various toilet-related images and informational boards that introduce toilet cultures from different regions, such as the evolution of toilet paper and unique toilet habits. Alongside the educational knowledge, the museum is filled with humorous toilet-related sayings, allowing visitors to learn about toilet-related knowledge in a clean and entertaining environment. In addition to the cultural exhibition, Fu District has been enhancing public toilet hygiene over the past decade, adding 308 new or upgraded public restrooms and reaching a total of 643 restrooms, meaning the average number of restrooms per square kilometer is 8, which is higher than the recommended standard of 3 to 5 restrooms per square kilometer for urban sanitation facilities planning in related cities.
