Last Monday, Chinese musician Wang Bo released a new parody song titled "How Should I Get You To Hear Me?" on WeChat videos, Douyin, and Xiaohongshu. The video, about 23 seconds long, repurposes a speech given by Singapore's Minister of Manpower and Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Chee Soon[strlen]eng in the parliament in early 2025, where he invoked a catchy Cantonese phrase from the 2004 film "Huhu" starring Hong Kong actor Andy Lau. Witty and infectious, the song has garnered over 110,000 likes within two days. The original parliamentary scene, where Minister Chee deftly switched to Cantonese during a debate on budget allocation for manpower, was initially met with laughter by the audience, making it a sensation in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and even the mainland. Wang Bo reimagined the stirring Cantonese outburst into a catchy melody, successfully capturing the essence of the original dialogue. In the mainland, the song has sparked joy and amusement, with netizens praising its strong rhythm and lifelike lyrics. Some witty comments suggest calling the song "The Teacher's Song," marking its potential to go viral much like last year's hit "No Future," which reimagined a debate by a Taiwanese legislator. The latter song went viral, gained international recognition, and even made it to the Top 10 Buzzwords list in Shanghai in 2025.
