The government has warned private car drivers crossing into Shenzhen via the Huanggang checkpoint to expect significant delays this weekend due to priority being given to public transport. Over 1,000 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in just two hours last Saturday, surpassing its hourly capacity of 360 vehicles. With more events scheduled, authorities are preparing for another busy weekend. Last weekend saw a surge in late-night outbound traffic as visitors left after attending concerts or festivities. Chief Secretary Eric Chan expects the northbound traffic to peak between 11pm and 2am from October 30 to November 1. Public transport will receive priority, and private cars may be diverted to a holding area, with possible waiting times of over an hour. The Transport and Logistics Secretary Mable Chan has noted that cross-border coach services will operate more frequently, up to every five minutes, this weekend. In an effort to manage the influx of visitors, an emergency monitoring and support centre will be operational from noon on Friday. Security Secretary Chris Tang has advised against using unauthorised ride-hailing services, as law enforcement will take action to protect passengers. Chan encouraged people to consider staying overnight instead of enduring traffic delays.
