Wu Kai, also known as Weijian, a Chinese anti-fraud influencer, has long been exposing the criminal activities of Liu Ren from the Taizi Group and the Cambodian Anhui Chamber of Commerce. Two years ago, Wu was abducted in Guangdong, Huizhou by hired assailants and subjected to severe beatings and tortures such as "thumb-curling," ultimately succumbing to his injuries and dying in Jiangxi Dingnan, close to the city of Ganzhou.
In the months leading up to his death, details emerged that Liu Ren's associates had been tracking Wu, even inquiring with Wu's friends about his residential address in the mainland. According to the Guangdong Provincial High People's Court's second-instance judgment, Tong Bing, a Hubei native, saw Weijian's online alias 'Colonel' offering 300,000 RMB for Wu's abduction, with the aim of extorting information about his public account and urging him to delete his articles. Tong subsequently enlisted multiple accomplices to scout locations and increased the ransom to 1 million RMB. On November 10, 2024, Wu was abducted in the Daya Bay parking lot in Guangdong, forced to delete his WeChat articles, and subsequently tortured in various regions including Guangdong and Jiangxi. Throughout these tortures, including the excruciating "thumb-curling" punishment, Wu lost a portion of his finger's nail.
In the end, Wu's body was found in a mountainous area near Ganzhou, Jiangxi on December 13, 2024. He died due to fractured injuries to the brain and intracranial bleeding. Liu Ren, a key member of the Taizi Group's major cross-border criminal syndicate, was subsequently arrested and returned to mainland China, facing charges of online gambling, fraud, and other offenses. Tong Bing and his accomplices were convicted in 2025, with Tong receiving a death sentence suspended for two years, and others receiving prison terms ranging from six to eight years. Liu Ren's trial is ongoing, with a verdict yet to be issued.
