Security Secretary Lau Ying Pun stated that the new Huanggang cross-border center saw an average daily passenger flow of 130,000 during the long holiday, with 83,000 daily even on regular days. Peak-hour wait times were elongated, especially during the Saturday midday peak, with queues lasting up to an hour.

Recommendations for Improvement

Lau made several recommendations for improvement, including encouraging pre-registration for e-channels. He noted that some travelers have not pre-registered for e-channel services, and that seven-year-olds must use manual counters, which led to longer lines.

Despite the 90 available departure counters – 60 for e-channels and 30 manual ones – the manual counters require personnel from both Hong Kong and the mainland to operate simultaneously.

Greater Collaboration Between HK and Mainland

Lau expressed gratitude to the frontline staff but also highlighted the immense pressure they face and the cancellations of leave. He mentioned that additional manpower and extended working hours have been deployed in response.
