On October 24, a murder case in Fuji-Hakone-Irhaku Town, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, involving a Taiwanese victim, Jin Yunrong, has sparked a complex web of financial and romantic machinations. Jin, 38, was found slashed to death at a hotel, and her motive remains unclear. According to The Mirror Weekly, Jin's new husband, surnamed Li, who married the victim three months ago, is suspected of trying to defraud a huge insurance payout of 30 million NT dollars (approximately HKD 7.3 million). He allegedly plotted with his ex-girlfriend, Yang Minhan, 27, to kill Jin, arrange a fake marriage, and then carry out the murder. In July, Jin, who met a 29-year-old business owner, surnamed Li, through a social media job posting, swiftly got engaged. However, shortly after the wedding, Li coerced his wife into issuing a bank draft for nearly 15 million NT dollars (about HKD 3.65 million) due to past experience with money laundering. He further manipulated her by suggesting amputation to claim high insurance payouts. Fearing for her life, Jin had previously hinted at the attempt to claim a large sum through such means. Further investigation revealed that Jin intended to travel to Japan alone in mid-September but suffered an accidental fall by the railway tracks at Tainan's railway station, cancelling her trip. Her distress led her to seek help from the media and friends, fearing a plot by her husband. He had again arranged for her to travel to Japan and arranged a return to Tainan, which she reluctantly agreed to. To ensure her safety, she secretly hired a friend to rent a car. When Li was captured at Kaohsiung's Airports, he was charged with murder and making false reports to officials.
