Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un visited the Chinese border city of Dandong on Saturday, crossing a newly opened bridge. Upon his arrival, Kim was met by China's top political advisor Wang Huning, who conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping. The visit took place via the New Yalu River Bridge, which officially opened last week and serves as a major border crossing, deepening economic ties between China and the DPRK. The three-kilometre bridge is the most significant land border crossing between the two countries. During their meeting, Wang told Kim that China was ready to use the bridge's opening to expand personnel exchanges and economic and trade cooperation. According to CCTV reports, Kim participated in a memorial service to pay tribute to martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army and visited an automobile factory. Kim's visit came a day before the anniversary of China joining the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea in 1950. Wang saw Kim off at the bridge at the end of the trip. (Agencies)
