Chief Executive John Lee emphasized Hong Kong's role in advancing green technologies and sustainable businesses within the Belt and Road Initiative at the inaugural Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference. Lee highlighted Hong Kong's status as a leading green and sustainable finance hub, noting its ability to connect green projects with global capital. For instance, he cited a solar energy project that involves collaboration between Chinese mainland equipment suppliers, a Southeast Asian developer, and Middle Eastern investors, where Hong Kong supports the partners in raising finance, structuring investments, arranging insurance, and managing cross-border risks. Lee also pointed out that Hong Kong's professional services ensure projects are both bankable and insurable. Lee announced the upcoming Green Technology Bridgehead Programme, which will help mainland and overseas green enterprises target Belt and Road markets. Additionally, the city plans to assist Belt and Road countries in connecting with wider global markets. Hong Kong can offer financing, project management, and risk management services for green infrastructure and sustainable development projects, he said.
Lee emphasized Hong Kong's professional services in ensuring green projects are bankable and insurable, while the city's Green Technology Bridgehead Programme aims to spread green technology ideas and solutions across Belt and Road markets. By connecting green technologies with the right markets, Hong Kong seeks to foster sustainable development and financial opportunities for both mainland and overseas enterprises. The programme's introduction signifies Hong Kong's commitment to aiding the global green push within the Belt and Road Initiative.
