Hong Kong achieved record success at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, with the city's delegation bringing home a total of 54 medals, including 11 gold, 19 silver, and 24 bronze. The performance was acknowledged by Chief Executive John Lee during a commendation ceremony on Monday, where he praised the athletes' resilience and dedication. During the event, Lee honored top-performing athletes such as Lydia Sham, who secured Hong Kong's first gold medal at the Asian Games with her wushu skills. The Chief Executive also highlighted the government's continued commitment to sports development, noting that investments in the sector had risen significantly in the last decade, with almost a 70 percent increase in the 2026–27 financial year alone.

In particular, the government has invested around HK$8.1 billion in sports development and allocated approximately HK$1 billion to the Hong Kong Sports Institute, which provides comprehensive support for athletes including medical care and scientific training. Looking ahead, Lee emphasized that resources for sports development would increase by 20 percent over the next five years. Other attendees at the event included Chief Secretary Eric Chan, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law, and Timothy Fok, President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
